Laurence Fishburne\’s breakout role in the 1991 film “Boyz N The Hood” gained him lasting recognition as an outstanding actor. The next year, Fishburne turned his efforts to the stage, where he won a Tony Award for his performance in August Wilson\’s “Two Trains Running” and also won an Emmy Award for an episode of “Tribeca,” a short-lived television series.
In 1993, Fishburne received an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Ike Turner in the film “What\’s Love Got to Do With It?” Perhaps, however, Fishburne is now best known for his role as Morpheus in the blockbuster science fiction movie franchise “The Matrix,” where he plays the role of the hacker-mentor to Neo (Keanu Reeves).
Fishburne began acting at the tender age of 12. He got his big break in 1973 when he portrayed Joshua Hall on the ABC soap opera One Life to Live. Later on, Fishburne earned a supporting role in Francis Ford Coppola\’s landmark Vietnam War film Apocalypse Now and then a recurring role as “Cowboy Curtis” alongside Pee Wee Herman on Pee-Wee\’s Playhouse.
Fishburne was born in Augusta, Georgia and lives in New Rochelle, New York.
